How do you create happiness in your business? Do you do it through:
- Creating new products
- Helping customers
- Taking vacations
- Earning money
Can you create happiness in your business when everything is falling apart?
Happy when the world is blowing up!
I recently went through a hard drive crash. This hard drive had yet to be backed up and had a LOT of critical assets on it that were now GONE. We spent a weekend trying to recover what we could but to no avail. It was toast, and all those assets were forever in the ether.
I’m not going to lie, I cried, and I wanted to rage. But as the old saying goes, “Shit happens.” It’s what you do with that shit that matters.

So, what did I do?
I looked at my Future State, where I wanted to be in my business, and sat in that for a moment. I steeped in the joy and freedom that space holds for me.
Then I looked at my Present State, which wasn’t pretty. But hey, I created those assets once before, I could do it again…and this time I had a CLUE what they were all about and how to recreate them because I had documented the process!
Then I looked at my timeline, at how much time would it take to replace those items and prioritized.
The fertilizer for happiness…
When you know where you’re going, and you know where you are, and have the teensiest clue as to your timing, you can make it through just about anything.
When you have a hiccup, you can fall back on that knowledge to quickly get you back up and moving. AND that hiccup will give you greater clarity.
Clarity of the possible:
- Gaps in your process (no process for backing up my data),
- Improvements to be made (cleaning up my business file structure and finding a way to store assets on a server that both backs up nightly and is accessible to me wherever I happen to be),
- Solutions to exceptions (Create Asset process 😜)
Those hiccups become the fertilizer for your business to grow and bring even more happiness to you and your clients.
Take the first simple step to writing your processes. It’s the easiest way to effectively thwart potential disaster. And BONUS, if you’re looking to delegate some of those repetitive tasks that take up your day and keep you from the revenue generating projects, you’ll also start the process to clone yourself and create your first “Mini-Me”!
And remember: Keep your eyes on the horizon, your hands on the wheel, and your foot on the GAS!!
Let’s DO THIS!
