Word of the Year

Word of the Year

Each year many people decide upon a word to focus on. This is a practice to help you focus on what it is you want to learn, create, grow into, or have happen in the coming year.

There are many ways to come up with your Word of the Year:

  • Pull the first word that comes to you
  • Reflect on where you want to go in the next year and find the word that resonates most closely with that vision
  • Open the dictionary to a random page and point
  • Watch and listen to the language that keeps coming up in your life and pick the word that encapsulates the general concept of those conversations.

Some of these methods can seem haphazard, but could be surprisingly accurate for what you need to hear. Others are more methodical and intentional, putting you in the driver’s seat of the year ahead.

Either way, YOU choose the word and decide to put your focus on it. YOU chose to make it an intentional part of your days, weeks, and months.

My Word

My word of the year for 2023 is DETERMINATION.

There have been a lot of activities that have been in the planning stages or just this side of completion and this has been holding me back from accomplishing and achieving my stated goals.

Determination, for me, is the motivation to really work on the tasks that will move me and my business forward to where I know it could be.

I am determined that this year will be a year of action and visibility.

Write it down

Part of ensuring that you keep your focus throughout the year is writing your word down. Writing it out brings it from the ethereal concept into a state of reality…you can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste it.

You could also make it an art project! Break out your paints, collage materials, pens, pencils, glue, and glitter (if you are so inclined) and give yourself a piece of art to enjoy all year long.

Keeping it front of mind will help you to remain focused on what it is you say you want in your life, and be able to say NO to those things that do not fall within that vision. This doesn’t mean that the other things are bad or unworthy, just that they are not your focus at this time.
