Support
I asked Google about finding support for your personal goals and objectives and one of the first things it came up with was this from Indeed.com:

This is GREAT advice! But it’s kind of like that Steve Martin joke:
“You.. can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes! You can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes! You say.. “Steve.. how can I be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes?” First.. get a million dollars. …”
It’s just that simple, right? Just get a million dollars. Just surround yourself with people who encourage you.
In reality, that’s harder than it looks on paper.
Family & Friend “Support”
Sure, you have people who are supposed to encourage you and are supposed to want the best for you, but how many families hear someone’s “crazy” dream and say “That’s a GREAT idea? GO FOR IT!”
I don’t know of many. Most families want what’s SAFE, not necessarily what’s BEST for you.
Parents have been in the world a bit longer than you have and they have seen some scary stuff. They want to protect you so that you aren’t hurt by what they’ve seen. Sometimes they do this in kind ways, sometimes it comes out not so nicely…even mean and trauma inducing.
Siblings and friends have this tendency as well. But they also have fear that shows up. Maybe they fear that you’ll be “better than” and look at them with disdain if you “make it.” Maybe their fear is that you’ll leave them behind if you grow beyond where they are willing to stretch, or in a different direction.
When someone loves you, they want you to be safe and around. And sometimes that can lead to subtle sabotages that keep you “in your place.”
Change is Scary and Hard
Breaking out of these constraints can be hard. Moving forward with your dream while everyone around you is trying to keep you still and safe is difficult.
This is why underdog movies make such a splash in our hearts. Just once we’d like to be the one who pushes past “what’s expected” to experience “amazing”… so we get it via Hollywood.
We watch it on TV or the big screen and feel the exhilaration of overcoming the odds, proving to everyone that the idea wasn’t crazy after all! And then we go back to our lives and stay in the box that was created for us, because breaking it is too hard and a lot of work with no support.
You have a dream. Something so precious to you that you don’t ever really share with anyone else because it’s fragile. If you were to mention it, people may start sneering.
So you keep it hidden. Ever searching for those elusive “people who encourage you”. And chances are that those people who would encourage you seem a little scary. Their excitement feels “too much” or “over the top” and frankly a little intimidating.
