Celebrate the Small Wins: Build Confidence and Joy Along Your Journey

You know those things you do every day? The small things that never get acknowledged? Dishes, laundry, feeding yourself and/or others, taking care of the pets, driving to work, showing up for folks? These are the things that get swept under the rug, not even remembered…but they are the things that build up the foundation of your life.

All those little things deserve to be celebrated. It’s time to acknowledge and celebrate all the little things you do every day. This will also hype up your dopamine centers and make you feel good about yourself. And when you write them all down, you begin to feel confident and pretty amazed at all you are able to do in a day.

The Power of Celebrating Small Wins

Try this…when you finish a task, any task (like even feeding the dogs), do a little wiggle and sing a silly song. I started doing this when I felt road rage coming on and it’s turned into this wonderful way to trick the mind into something positive rather than dwell in the negative.

The first silly song I made up was when I was driving home from work and this little old man was driving his equally old truck onto the freeway entrance. He was going about 20 MPH. I’m in my car wanting to hit the GAS, and he’s in my way. I felt the energy rise and started to get a little hot under the collar when I saw his face in the mirror.

He was just trying to get along his way safely and I softened a bit. I started singing, “He’s just a pokey, pokey man in his pokey, pokey truck trying to get on the freeeeeway.” I started to giggle a bit and when it was safe, I hit the GAS and passed him, laughing. I sang that little ditty the whole way home just laughing and giggling at the situation of the little old man.

When I got home, all the stress from work and the drive home that I normally had was gone. I came into the house just singing, dancing, and giggling. I told the story to my family and they got a good giggle too. The rest of the evening was filled with smiles and giggles. It was a really nice experience. (We still laugh about it to this day.)

Finding Joy in Everyday Moments

I took that experience and played with it, applying it to other situations, and the results were the same. Smiles, giggles, and a calmer, more inviting environment.

It might feel strange at first, to put that last dish away, turn around, play a little air guitar, and scream out like your favorite Metal God, “I just did the dishes!! Woah, woah, woah! Now they’re ready to be used again! (insert epic verbal guitar solo)” But it might just give you the boost you need to continue the day.

Try it when you’re walking out of the bank. Sing “Money, money, money, money…MONEY!” (For The Love Of Money by the O’Jays) and do a little bootie wiggle. Yeah, you might get stared at, but you might just share a little joy and laughter along the way. You’ll also feel a little lighter and happier yourself.

Building Confidence Through Celebration

By celebrating all the little things along the way, you celebrate your own progress, reinforce your most authentic self to the world, and build the confidence to continue moving forward towards your BIG Dreams.

Every small win is a step toward your BIG Dream. When you take time to notice and celebrate those moments, you remind yourself just how capable and resilient you truly are.
