Celebrate the Little Things That Make Life Worth Living

Celebration is not just for the big things in life; it’s for the everyday things. Each moment is worth celebrating. Each task completed, each moment of overcoming something, each hurdle won.

Sometimes it’s the small hurdles that make the biggest difference. It’s the first step taken that creates the journey.

Celebration also creates motivation. It builds confidence and capability. It’s the little thing that lifts your spirit after a hard thing has been done. It puts evidence in your bucket that you CAN, You DID, and YOU WILL accomplish cool things!

When Sour Suzy decides to show up in your life and tell you all the things that “still need to be done” or “just how lame that thing turned out”, you can turn to her and say, “But I’m doing it/I did it! And I’m learning/I learned! That’s a good thing!”

Don’t let her make you wait for the BIG thing to happen before you allow yourself to enjoy what’s currently happening.

Celebrate The Little Things That Light You Up

When you get that flutter of excitement, go with it. Let the laughter come out. Share it with someone. Notice the little things around you that light you up. Acknowledge the things that make you look forward to tomorrow. Do the scary thing and then CELEBRATE it!

Sometimes doing a load of laundry is the hardest thing you can do in a day. Acknowledge it and celebrate that you did it!

I recently watched a couple of videos on social media and they were talking about how they reconnect with their passion and the energy of life that keeps them moving forward. In both of these videos, it was all about doing and celebrating that action.

Painters paint. Runners run. Entrepreneurs build businesses. It doesn’t matter if what they produce is any good or not, it matters that they DO the thing. AND it matters that they allow themselves the joy it brings to themselves. If it happens to bring joy to others, that’s just a bonus!

Make Time for The Things That Bring You Joy

It can be hard to allow yourself the joy of doing the thing you love because outside influences have taught you that it’s ‘selfish’, ‘silly’, or ‘not worth the time’. It can be hard to allow yourself to DO the thing because it doesn’t meet whatever expectations have been placed on it by you or others.

You’re allowed to enjoy your life, whether you accomplish anything or not. When you do something out of pure love of the thing, it reconnects you to your own life mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. That’s worth celebrating. It doesn’t need to meet anyone’s requirements of productivity to be worthy of celebration, not even yours.

The resistance that comes from the pull of your excitement and the pressure of outside expectations creates growth, strength, and personal resolve within. When you purposefully put your BIG Dream (no matter how BIG or small it is to others) as a priority, do your ‘work’, and celebrate each micro-baby step along the way, you build the knowledge, stamina, and confidence to live your life authentically and inspire those around you to do the same.

Celebrate Your Progress Instead of Downplaying It

I notice that I have a habit of downplaying my own accomplishments. The other day my daughter came in and excitedly let me know that a particular video had gotten a LOT of views in one day. She was celebrating my accomplishment…and I sat there thinking, “Eh, it’s not that big of a deal.” It took me a minute or two before I asked myself, “Would this reaction be the same if it were HER accomplishment?” And the answer was “NO.” I would have been as excited as she was (or more) about it.

So, I made myself do a 10-Second Bootie Wiggle™ and allowed myself a little excitement to seep into my body. Sour Suzy still has things to say about it, but for that moment I allowed Dreamy Dana to show up and be happy.

It’s not about being toxically positive, thinking everything is just peachy-keen all the time. It’s about being REAL about even the smallest things.

Getting out of bed today? That was REALLY HARD! Celebrate it!

Taking one chunk out of Mt. Washmore? What a feat! Celebrate It!

Got on stage, made that phone call, talked to that person? That was SCARY! CELEBRATE IT!

Your celebration doesn’t need to be big and flashy. It could be a simple “YES!” with a little shuffle dance along the way, a cupcake as you drive home, or some fun time with friends. You get to choose what to celebrate! Laughing till you cry, meaningful conversations, silly dances in the parking lot, the things that make up a life.

And if you need a little help letting those moments of celebration actually sink in, try a 10-Second Bootie Wiggle™. It’s ridiculously simple, takes almost no time, and gives you a physical way to stop, acknowledge the moment, and let yourself FEEL it. Download the free 10-Second Bootie Wiggle™ and start celebrating the little things that remind you just how much life there is to enjoy.
