Celebrating every step, even when you’re stuck
When you feel stuck, it’s easy to overlook the small progress you’re making. It feels like nothing is happening or moving forward towards anything.
One way to combat this is to record all the little things you do…no matter how small or insignificant.
Track Your Small Wins Daily
I started doing this when I was early in my career and needed something to tell my supervisor when it came time for reviews.
I knew that I wouldn’t remember what I did at the beginning of the year, so I started to just write down everything…documents, meetings, everything!
When it came time to have the conversation, I was able to give concrete numbers of what I had done and, bonus, was able to justify raises and promotions!
The same goes for your personal life as well. You do SO MUCH in a year that gets swept under the rug and dismissed as unimportant.
When you start to track what you’re doing each day, week, month, you begin to see just how much you really do. This leads to feeling better about yourself and creating momentum.
It doesn’t have to be much, just a word or two to remind yourself what you did.
Give Yourself Grace During Downtimes
And on those off times, when you don’t get a lot done, you can step back and take a look at what was happening around you. Perhaps you experienced a loss, recovering from doing too much, or were sick…can you really ask yourself to get a whole lot done in that time? I don’t think so.
When you can see all the things you really do and celebrate them, you are able to give yourself some grace during the down times.
Create Your Own Celebration Rituals
The celebration you do doesn’t have to be some big party. It can be as simple as a 10-Second Bootie Wiggle™, singing a little ditty, or hollering out a little WOO-HOO! Just something silly and fun that closes the loop and makes you smile and giggle.
If you need some support in this, download the 10-Second Bootie Wiggle song. It’s a fun little 10-second ditty that will have you shaking your groove thing and giggling along the way. Put it as your ring tone or alarm on your phone to remind you to celebrate even the smallest of wins!
