Navigating Life Changes: Why You Never Seem To Finish Things
Sometimes life has its bumpy areas, those times when the ride is not so smooth sailing. They usually come ‘out of the blue’ and completely sideswipe you when you think life is going well. But sometimes you can see the storm coming on the horizon.
Navigating Life Changes Often Feels Like a Storm That Makes You Want to Stop
It’s a part of life, but it’s not always easy to navigate. We question, “Why me?!” or “Is this a sign to stop?” And sometimes we get stuck in that storm because we cannot seem to find the way out. Many times, this is exactly where we stop.
We start something new with excitement, energy, and hope. And then the storm hits. Doubt creeps in, things feel harder than expected, and suddenly stopping feels easier than pushing through. So, we pause, pivot or walk away. Not because we’re incapable, but because we don’t recognize what’s actually happening.
Instead of asking “Why me?”, ask yourself, “What is this doing FOR me?”
Most of these storms come along when we’re ready for new growth. There are things that were great at one time but have become old and stale.
I think of it like a home that is well lived in, but then you look up and you see the cobwebs that have gathered all the dust. By cleaning up said cobwebs, you become the Shift-Storm™ that wreaks havoc on the spider’s domain. BUT, this gives the spider the opportunity to create a new web that is more conducive to making their life better and more abundant.
The spider doesn’t sit in the corner and wonder why its home was destroyed. It sighs a breath of relief and starts working on its new home.
This is what happens when you keep starting things but never finish them. It’s not that you’re inconsistent. It’s that every time you begin something new, you eventually hit a Shift-Storm™, and instead of seeing it as part of the process, it feels like a sign that something has gone wrong. So you stop… right before the breakthrough.
Why Navigating Life Changes Causes You to Start and Stop
Life does the same for us. It presents us with opportunities to clean up what is clogging our energetic flow. This could be physical things, or it could be mental and emotional things. It could be past things that we’ve neglected and instead of being something we sweep up or spray to clean…it becomes a construction project that uncovers a couple of major flaws that require much needed attention.
This happened to me a few years ago after purchasing a new washer/dryer. The install folks neglected to tighten down the water hoses appropriately and our kitchen (and surrounding rooms) slowly flooded. Wood floors buckled, carpet soggy, cabinets warping, the whole shebang.
As the remediation folks were under our home, they noticed another area that was leaking from our kitchen sink. There was no surface indication that anything was wrong in that area of our kitchen, but the damage underneath was there. There was also a growing hole under our refrigerator…too much of one for the washer/dryer to have been the culprit.
These were things that needed to be fixed immediately that we had no idea were happening. So, it turned out that by not tightening the hoses, they helped us to save our home from further, more costly damage…AND we got a new, remodeled kitchen mostly paid by their insurance.
Navigating Life Changes Means Pushing Through When It Gets Hard
Another example is a client of mine was going through an eviction after Covid. Her landlord chose to not renew their lease and gave them 30 days to move. They had lived in that home for years and this notice came out of nowhere. She and her family had been saving up to buy a home, but didn’t quite have enough to make the jump just yet.
There were some unfounded legal things the landlord brough forth that also needed attention, all while trying to find a new home, pack, and move. She and I spent the time going through each thing line by line and moving forward just trusting the process, breathing along the way so panic wouldn’t set in.
The courts threw out the legal case because my client had all her evidence, and even though they didn’t think they were ready to buy a home, they started the research process, looking at homes, looking at mortgages, etc. They found a home that they fell in love with and as they were contemplating making the jump, a windfall came to them from a relative which gave them the downpayment and they made the purchase.
So, what seemed like a total annihilation of living circumstances, turned into an amazing opportunity for safety and stability for their family.
These Shift-Storms are NOT a sign to stop…they are a sign to clean up your side of the street, do the emotional and physical work, and be prepared for the next level that is coming your way.
