Reflection is key to understanding where you’ve come from and what’s holding you back. When you look back, without judgment, at where you were, what occurred, and where you are now, you can begin to see things that worked well, things you’d do differently now that you have more experience, and just how far you’ve come.

You can see where things held you back, where they moved you forward, and where there were opportunities to pivot. You get a clearer view of the patterns that supported you and the ones that quietly drained your energy in the background.

How Reflection Gives You the Opportunity to Understand Your Patterns

As you look at the places where you stopped or waited, take some time to examine if it was because of fear or doubt.

  • Where did that fear come from?
  • When did that doubt become instilled?
  • Whose voice was heard as you stepped into that moment?

This is an opportunity to examine if this idea or fear came from you or someone else. It is also an opportunity to truly look to see if it’s true in the here and now or not. So many of the barriers that stall us out were built years ago, sometimes decades ago, and they no longer apply to the woman you are today.

It can be exhausting to live in a world of fear and anxiety, making up stuff in order to keep you from doing things. By taking a moment to reflect and learn, you can build up the muscles of confidence and trust in your own doing of things. Reflection lets you calm the noise, sort truth from assumption, and remind yourself that you are capable, resourceful, and allowed to evolve.

Take notes about your journey. What are the thought processes you’re going through? Are your decisions based on fear or excitement? Maybe it’s a “Do what I WANT!” attitude that comes into play. All these reactions can be good or bad depending on the situation.
