Overcome Self-Doubt During Shift-Storms™

When chasing a BIG Dream, self-doubt can feel like a never-ending Shift-Storm™ that threatens to blow you off course. The voices chime in and tell you all the negative things you could possibly remember from your life. They tell you that it’s proof you shouldn’t go for your BIG Dream.

Humans have a habit of remembering all the failures and misses and putting all that “evidence” into a large bucket and reminding themselves that this bucket is why they shouldn’t do something. “Just look at what happened before!! You don’t want to do THAT again!”

What we forget to do is gather all the “evidence” of when we do well! And whenever someone mentions that you’ve done something special, we pass it off as “No big deal.” 

I think these practices need to be flipped!

How to Overcome Self-Doubt with Positive Proof

We can build a habit of gathering all the positive evidence from our life and training those voices within to be cheerleaders. I do this with physical movement. It seems silly and probably looks a little stupid, but it works! 

 Just the intentional action of pretending to put all the good things in an evidence bucket shifts the mind into thinking that compliment, atta-boy, or random act of kindness is important and proves that we are loveable and worth someone else’s time and effort to let us know.

Flip the Script to Overcome Self-Doubt

It takes some time to build up enough evidence before your brain starts to understand and see all the good things. But if you continue to practice filling your positive evidence bucket, pretty soon, once you hear that negative voice start to ramp up, your positive voice will chime in, “Oh, that’s BS! Just look at this bucket of goodness we’ve accumulated! You GO girl!”

We live in a world where people poo-poo on giving accolades unless it’s something AMAZING! Well, I say “Phooie on that!” Give yourself ALL the Goal’d Stars™!!! Even for the little things…because, usually, those are the hardest things to do. 

It’s not a participation trophy, it’s an acknowledgement of the work you put in to improve yourself and make something happen! YOU decided to learn. YOU decided to try something new. YOU decided to DO SOMETHING! WOOHOO!

Don’t let the outsiders, who don’t know all that went into the thing, tell you it’s no good or not worth it. YOU know the value to yourself. Even if it didn’t quite work out, you LEARNED!
